During those years, Ethiopian music absorbed varied influences of pop, rock and jazz and local superstars such as Mahmoud Ahmed, Alemayehu Eshete and Aster Aweke created a series of eternal hits that remain popular to this day in Ethiopia Saxophonist and vocalist Abate Berihun, the doyen of Israeli-Ethiopian musicians, leads the Tesfa Band, whose name means “hope” in Amharic—young musicians who present traditional-folk songs and melodies that combine in a tribute to the inspiration of the Golden Age.
