The Asbestonim, led by oud player Guy Cohen, returns to the songs of the late Maurice Sarfati, a local legend and gifted storyteller, tax investigator and eternal punk. Maurice’s sarcastic songs mocked Israeli existence and its greedy heroes, and contained a handful of references to kiosks, gossip, political corruption, sectarian demons and everything that makes up the local reality. The Asbestonim first appeared with Sarfati’s songs in 2015. A year later he died of cancer.
