Trio Zariab is named after the legendary 9th century musician, oud player and composer Zariab, who is credited with adding the fifth string to the oud. The trio was founded by three graduates of the Bustan Avraham band: oud player Taiseer Elias, the artistic director of the trio; violinist Naseem Dakwar and percussionist Zohar Fresco. The Zariab Trio began to perform 30 years ago, and is reuniting for a unique and rare performance at the Oud Festival. The trio gives deep expression to Arabic art music and its various genres, while respecting tradition as a basis for creating new and original music that emphasizes imaginative improvisation and in-depth interpretation. The trio performs works by the great Arab composers, including Muhammad Abd al-Wahhab, Riyad al-Sunbati and Muhammad al-Kasabji, as well as by the great Turkish composers, including Cemil Bey Tanburi, Mesut Cemil Bey and others. The trio has performed in Israel and around the world, receiving rave reviews.
