Composer, conductor and pianist Nizar Elkhater comes to the Oud Festival with a quartet that performs adaptations of traditional maqamat that correspond to the rhythm division of funk and pop. The result is a fusion of the worlds of classical Arabic music, Mediterranean music, Western popular music, as well as Egyptian hits mixed with pop and rock music: Fayrouz with Frank Sinatra and Um Kalthum with the Eagles’ “Hotel California.” All this takes place in the vocals of Nour Darwish. More in the show: original compositions by Elkhater (melodies and lyrics) in a premiere performance.
