Singer-songwriter Mor Karbasi returns to Confederation House with a new show, La Tsadika (The Righteous One), an exciting journey to the roots of family members on her mother’s side, who migrated from Spain to Morocco after the deportation of the Jews of Spain and immigrated to Israel. Karbasi returned to Israel recently, after five years living in Seville, Spain. The show is inspired by the time that she spent there, and particularly the influence of flamenco music. Karbasi collected traditional Spanish songs in Haketia, the special language of the Spanish Jews who came to Morocco after their deportation. She arranged them and created songs inspired by them and by North African piyyutim. Karbasi’s passionate songs connect her contemporary work with the stories of the women in her family that she recounts. Her powerful voice charges the songs with a supratemporal dimension, dreaming of the days when Jews, Arabs and Christians lived together in Andalusia.
